This site is awesome. It shows all the calories and fat contents of all the major fast food brands. It gives me the idea of writing a bit about the health benefits of slow food compared to fast food.

Thinking food

I still watch a lot of the travel channel. Mostly because they talk about food in other countries or places to go when your in a new city to eat the best food. I've noticed that when ever they come to Portland they always have Voodoo Doughnuts on. I'm not complaining at all. I can't get enough of the voodoo. But that's it. They never really talk about anywhere else. I know there are other food places to go to in Portland. Show them.

Number 1

I think I found a good site with info that made me not really want fast food from a burger place.

It gives all the info on the food that is served at fast food places.

Slow fast

It’s the smell that we receive first. We walk by a restaurant, diner, drive-in, or a joint and the air is thick with the smell of something cooking. That’s what we all receive. For me, it started when I was growing up. I would always ask what’s for dinner and both my parents would keep it vague: Chicken, fish, beef, or on occasion a surprise. So I would try to guess what they were adding. I’d be in a different room while the smell of honey and ginger or taco powder filled my nose. I would always get part of the meal right. That’s where I feel in love with food.
I love food. I love trying new foods and new ways to cook old ideas. So what does the slow/fast mean up there? Slow food and fast food. The idea of going somewhere, sitting down, enjoying the atmosphere of the place, and getting the food that was ordered as apposed to going through a drive thru and getting a meal in a bag from a teen with a high pitched voice. I don’t have a problem with either one. Sometimes I feel like fast food and other days I feel like sitting and enjoying. So what’s the question? Here it is: Is fast food taking away from what slow food can offer? I think fast food might be taking away the spirit of slow food. I know it’s one sided but I like the idea of slow food more than fast food. I’ve already for a few things about slow and fast food. I do plan on going into places and interview people. If I can, I want to interview the guys behind Voodoo Doughnuts. That might be hard but I think the payout will be well worth it.
So I have an idea. I know what I want and I have the basic outline for a paper. Now I get to write out my ideas. This could be quit filling.

Food

I first took this class always three years ago but it didn’t turn out so good. This time I wanted to make sure I had a topic I could write about. My three main topics for this term paper all came from three things that I love: Animals, music, and food. I don’t want my paper to feel forced or rough. I want a topic that I get really wrap around and just kind of flow with. I thought a long time on it. I read my feedback from my posts and thumbed around with the ideas and then I came up with me answer which shouldn’t have surprised me as much as it did. I’ll be writing a paper about food.
The whole idea of food is very curious to me. In one culture some is food but not in another one. I watch travel shows where they go to the far and middle east and show food that blows my mind sometimes. I’ve found myself wondering about food just walking around Portland. I walk past restaurants and smell the air of spice and juice. I see the street vendors with pictures of what they serve and it all looks good. I’ve try many foods from all over the world and I want to try more. I’ve had the normal foods and the not so normal. When I take a bite, I’m taking it to learn.
I like food, but I need a question to ask. As I started thinking of questions to write on, one kept on popping up over and over again: How did this become food? The only problem with that was I kept on answering it. Pork is a major part of the diet in the South Pacific because it was abundant but in the Middle East it’s not eaten. I know from working at the zoo and other animal work that pigs have a hard time cooling down. They role in mud to cool themselves down. Well the Middle East isn’t exactly pig friendly. When they rolled in the mud, them probably got some of their poop on them. Why would a person eat the meat of a pig if it rolled in its own poop? I’ve tossed other ideas around: What is the culture of food? Is food related to economic problems? What makes things food? Nothing seemed to fit until I came up with idea to figure out my problem. Food is a melting pot of many different things so why have a paper focus on one part of food? I’m going to focus on all those questions. I also came up with the subordinate question of what is street food and how is it different from our fast food. I’ve already found a few interesting things about food culture in China and the whole is pork food or not.
In all honesty I don’t know how this is going to turn out. I have faith in myself that I can get this done. I like food a lot. So in a sense I should be able to write this paper no problem. It’s just like cooking. You never know how it’s going to turn out until you bring out of the oven.

The reasons

Each topic I picked have their owns reasons.

Music: I have a deep attraction to music. It was always play in the house and car when I was growing up. I have a large variety of music that i like. That mostly comes from self discovery, what my parents listen to, and what my friends listen to. If I did this topic I would try to focus more on an era music than the whole idea of music. If you're wondering what era, 60's. It was the era of music.

Wolves: This is another topic that started in my childhood. For as long as I could remember I've been fawned of wolves. The whole idea of using team work to take down prey much larger than on wolf really seemed amazing to me. Wolves today have been re-introduced back into the wilds of Oregon. As you can imagine, this does not sit well with farmers of live stock. Wolves also have the bad name from fairy tales. I might go into about the wolf and its bad name and bad rep.

Food: I've just started exploring the wonders of cooking. I watch a lot of the travel channel and food network. I became enchanted by the concept of what food is and how different it can be between to countries. There's the native or old culture of food but there is also the idea of street food. I'm not talking about a food chain street food, I mean real food that is cooked right in front of you and hasn't been sitting in a freezer. I think this would be a hard idea to write about but I think it would be the most rewarding. Plus, I could try some new food.

Topics

Looking back on the self interview, I came up with three topics: Music's impact during the 60's, Real danger of Wolves, and the Culture of Food around the world.
