Food

I first took this class always three years ago but it didn’t turn out so good. This time I wanted to make sure I had a topic I could write about. My three main topics for this term paper all came from three things that I love: Animals, music, and food. I don’t want my paper to feel forced or rough. I want a topic that I get really wrap around and just kind of flow with. I thought a long time on it. I read my feedback from my posts and thumbed around with the ideas and then I came up with me answer which shouldn’t have surprised me as much as it did. I’ll be writing a paper about food.
The whole idea of food is very curious to me. In one culture some is food but not in another one. I watch travel shows where they go to the far and middle east and show food that blows my mind sometimes. I’ve found myself wondering about food just walking around Portland. I walk past restaurants and smell the air of spice and juice. I see the street vendors with pictures of what they serve and it all looks good. I’ve try many foods from all over the world and I want to try more. I’ve had the normal foods and the not so normal. When I take a bite, I’m taking it to learn.
I like food, but I need a question to ask. As I started thinking of questions to write on, one kept on popping up over and over again: How did this become food? The only problem with that was I kept on answering it. Pork is a major part of the diet in the South Pacific because it was abundant but in the Middle East it’s not eaten. I know from working at the zoo and other animal work that pigs have a hard time cooling down. They role in mud to cool themselves down. Well the Middle East isn’t exactly pig friendly. When they rolled in the mud, them probably got some of their poop on them. Why would a person eat the meat of a pig if it rolled in its own poop? I’ve tossed other ideas around: What is the culture of food? Is food related to economic problems? What makes things food? Nothing seemed to fit until I came up with idea to figure out my problem. Food is a melting pot of many different things so why have a paper focus on one part of food? I’m going to focus on all those questions. I also came up with the subordinate question of what is street food and how is it different from our fast food. I’ve already found a few interesting things about food culture in China and the whole is pork food or not.
In all honesty I don’t know how this is going to turn out. I have faith in myself that I can get this done. I like food a lot. So in a sense I should be able to write this paper no problem. It’s just like cooking. You never know how it’s going to turn out until you bring out of the oven.
